Yes, protein is for everyone and for life! It is not just for those who work out, lift weight etc. Why? Protein is often the key to weight loss for one. Many people, especially "dieters" don't consume enough protein. Protein keeps your metabolism revving higher, even just in digestion it requires more calories to process than either fat or carbohydrates. Protein contributes to your lean mass. You need 50calories per # of muscle just to maintain it. Do the math, the more lean mass the more increased caloric expenditure even at rest!

Most people are aware that athletes, specifically weight lifters, need more protein. True. But the latest studies done on adult endurance athletes now says the need is greater than thought-1.2-1.5g/# of body weight-minimum. Why? We know what a repetition is in weight lifting-everytime you move the weight through a range of motion. Did you ever consider how many "reps" are done cycling or running-THOUSANDS. The tendecy is for endurance athletes to actually break down and destroy muscle over time. It is important to prevent that process and certainly important to give your body the nutrients it needs to repair.

The more lean mass you have the better you look, less face it, 2 people can weight the same but the leaner one will look much better. For so many reason, protein should not be over looked. Minimal amounts for a healthy indivdual are about 1g per # of lean weight. so, a 150# person needs about 150g per day.
